Pepsi owns Quaker Oats
Just about everyday I get an offer from online diet programs or supplements to become an affiliate on www.myfatspouse.com.
Getting with the right affiliate pays much better than text ads. But having an affiliate places this site in the position of being an advocate of certain product(s). None of the affiliate offers I have received are from companies that I agree that strongly with.
I know that unsavory text ads show up, but somehow becoming an affiliate with them feels like a stamp of approval for their products where as text ads don’t. Albeit text ads pay a paltry amount.
I certainly wouldn’t accept any kind of direct compensation from a fast food company or a processed food giant, like Pepsi!

Ask Mopie of the www.bfdblog.com. She recently accepted an expense paid trip to Chicago for special bloggers, promoted by Quaker Oats.
You see a few years ago Quaker Oats was purchased and is owned by Pepsico. Not because Pepsi digs oats. Quaker Oats happened to manufacture Gatorade.
Coca Cola has spent billions over the years trying to compete with Gatorade with their product “Poweraid”, with pitiful success. Pepsi decided that an easier route would be just to buy Quaker Oats instead. I can’t imagine Pepsi would own an oatmeal company any other way.
I don’t have to tell you that Pepsico is a HUGE food company that has made a fortune off of High Fructose Corn Syrup sweetened water. Oh yes and through Frito Lay they make all you favorite Chips like Cheetos, Doritos, and Lays, just to name a few.
But the fun doesn’t end there. Pepsi founded and spun off YUM foods, which owns Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and Long John Silvers. They still have a relationship with these places. Try getting a Coke product at one of these joints.
So much for the big bad diet industry conspiracy. For the record the “diet industry” that FA complains about, reaped 35 billion dollars in sales in 2005. While Pepsico made nearly 33 billion, the same year.
Talk about a big fat hypocrite!

I wish I knew what happened here. Hard to believe it was MarriedtoaSweathog. He was having more fun than any of us. Hope MFS comes back soon. Does anybody else out there have a good place for us MFSer’s to hang out?
Guys, let’s remember that Chris has a life outside of MFS and this blog. He’s probably just been busy and hasn’t had time to check this stuff out yet. Give him some time
I don’t think M2 would do anything deliberately, but I gather that after he arrived there was always the risk that mfs would be labelled a hate-site and forced to close. It’s useless to speculate though, I just hope everything is well with Chris.

Has anyone heard from Chris yet on any of the other forums?
Several days ago, I live chatted with a rep from Bluehost. All the Blue host rep was able to tell me was the site had been Suspended (duh), and that the Site Administrator (I assume, Chris) needed to contact them-Bluehost. I tried to extract more info, but got nothing. At last I stated that I hoped nothing really bad had happened, as in he was dead or worse(sorry guys, it’s an occupational hazard that usually results in cynicism.) To which the rep replied that he could not release any further information.
There could be any number of possibilities as to what happened to myfatspouse.com. Someone who is more familiar with and/or has had more experience with the site might be able to speculate further. So for the time being I will keep my opinions to myself.

It is so weird that My Fat Spouse is suddenly gone.
Not everything that falls apart gets put back together again, but somehow and someway MFS will.
I’m actually quite worried about Chris (sorry, but that’s the truth). I guess Tuesday has been around longest, and I joined a little over a year ago. During this time mfs has crashed several times, but was always up again within a day at most. It doesn’t seem like Chris to me to just disappear without a word – although I can certainly understand if he’s got tired of the whole thing (I gather it cost him some money too to keep it going as well).
I sure wish Chris would let us know that he’s okay – and if he’s decided to quit we’d all just have to accept it.
It would be great if someone had the initiative to put up a new mfs if the old one isn’t coming back.
And that’s the trouble with the internet, no last names to go by most of the time, so no way to know if a person had something bad happen to them, or if they just said, “screw it” and stopped working on it. Mojo, I think Chris used to post on bodybuilding.com as “fatsuperman”. He has one other site that I know of, “Forgottenmuscle” (it’s about the history of bodybuilding, nothing even remotely controversial or offensive), but it has recently been “suspended” as well.

I’ve had to pull back and reorganize my own time more than once…MFS really helped me and so many people think through the weight, sex and marriage issues in my life. It hasn’t even been gone a month and I’m wondering if I could come up with something like it to fill the void. How does My Bigger Half sound? A little less direct. Any ideas for a name for the MFS refugee site. I miss the site too, and I hope Chris is alright. Like Mary45 said, the few times it has crashed or been suspended, he had it back up in pretty quick order. It’s been down almost two weeks now…
Looks like his domain is set to expire in April. It’s registered with Godaddy and his website is hosted by bluehost. I know Chris put a lot of energy into his website but i wouldn’t think it would cost that much to maintain it in the event he lost his job due to the recession. Of course it’s all just speculation. I hope Chris is ok…i really miss his website.
Btw, if Chris had wanted to just suddenly drop mfs and forget all abut it, then why would he leave Unfatblog up and open for our speculations and lamentations? It doesn’t make any sense to me.
I know…very weird. I’ve been checking every day to see if the website is up. By nature, I tend to always fear the worst……comes from my childhood when my mom would say she was going to the grocery store and then would stay gone for 6 hours (neglecting to tell me she was also going to a gazillion other places). And being a fan of the horror genre doesn’t help. So it would nice to know that Chris is ok.
His website was really very unique. There really isn’t anything out there quite like it. And despite some of the criticism, his website was not a ‘hate’ website. It was just a place some of us could go and vent.
And because there really isn’t anything else out there like MFS I thought I’d use what little time and web skills I have to try and start recreating or resurrecting MFS. I think MFS actually started as a Yahoo group. In any case I found a free forum host and set up a nice MFS refugee forum and I’d like to invite anybody and everybody to come on over, repost anything you might have squandered away on your computer from MFS and maybe see if we can get anything rolling. I was thinking of using this more as just a way of putting MFS in suspended animation, but if need be it could be the start of a full scale resurrection. Anybody wanna come along? I couldn’t agree more. I’m working on a resurrection, with any luck I’ll have it up and running in a couple weeks. I’m just starting to appreciate Chris’s efforts all the more. I’ll keep you posted. If you have any old content you may have preserved from MFS click on my name above and slap it on this nabble blog thing. I’d like to put as much old MFS content as possible on the new MFS in the works.
